HERKIMER, NY – The Village of Herkimer is losing a grocery store later this month.
Signs have been posted inside the Save A Lot on Mohawk Street in Herkimer informing customers the store will close on Saturday, December 19. That means one less place to shop for groceries in the valley.
NewsChannel 2 reached out to local store management and corporate offices for comment, and received this statement from Director of PR and Community Engagement Sarah Griffin:
"We take the decision to close any Save A Lot location very seriously and regularly review our stores on a number of factors. As part of this review, we made the difficult decision to forgo our lease renewal for our Herkimer store and will close this location on December 19. Our employees at this location have been offered the opportunity to transfer to positions in our nearby stores. We are grateful to our customers and our team members for their continuous loyalty and support. We look forward to continuing to serve customers at our Fort Plain and Rome locations"
The Save A Lot on Oneida Street in Utica closed in the summer of 2019.
