HERKIMER, N.Y. – More than 6,000 gallons of milk was donated to be distributed in Herkimer on June 9 as part of a free dairy drive-thru, presented by the county legislature and American Dairy Association.
The event started at the Herkimer Central School, 801 W. German St., at 10 a.m.
Herkimer County Legislator Robert Schrader says this is one way to help the community while many are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.
"We didn't plan for this epidemic, nor do we know how long it's going to last. So, if we continue to help the community, we'll all work together," he said.
For everyone's safety, people were asked to stay in their cars, as students and other volunteers put the items in trunks and back seats.
Another milk giveaway is also scheduled for June 30.
