HERKIMER, N.Y. – A Herkimer man was arrested after allegedly trying to collect cash from people while impersonating a police officer.
Herkimer police say they received three complaints about a man displaying a badge, claiming to be a police officer and attempting to collect unpaid fines. Police did not specify where these incidents happened.
After an investigation, officers arrested 41-year-old Gary Perkett on Sept. 14, and charged him with:
- Three counts of criminal impersonation
- Criminal tampering
- Petit larceny
- Unlawful imprisonment
Perkett is also facing 27 other charges in 14 open criminal cases. Police say most of the charges stem from fraudulent scams.
Perkett was arraigned and remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
