UTICA – A man has been charged with manslaughter in connection to a woman’s death on William Street last week.
Brian Brewczynski, 32, was arraigned on a charge of first-degree manslaughter Friday morning in Utica City Court in connection to 49-year-old Cheri Saupp's death. His lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.
Around 6:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, Utica police were called to 608 William St. where they found Cheri Saupp unconscious in her first-floor apartment. Saupp was treated at the scene and then transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Police then began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, and they say she died a result of injuries to her head. Brewczynski, who is from Herkimer but was living at the William Street apartment with Saupp, was arrested and charged on Thursday.
Brewczynski is being held on $100,000 bail, without bond. Officials say he has prior arrests, and we’re working to learn more information about that.
Brewczynski is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court again on May 30 for a preliminary hearing.
