Hospice meetings give people an opportunity to find support while grieving

Hospice & Palliative Care offers groups and workshops to help people dealing with grief.

Hospice & Palliative Care offers groups and workshops to help people dealing with grief.

All of their programs are open to the community and meet at their office, 4277 Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford unless it is a special event.

Grief After the First Year – This meeting will help adults who have dealt with the first year of grief know what to expect as time goes on and learn techniques for dealing with grief. The session will take place Monday, April 6, from 2:30 – 4 p.m. Pre-registration is required by March 31. Call Linda Clark at 315-735-6487 ext. 1015 to register.

Young Widows Evening Group – Widows in their 20’s to 60’s meet to discuss their losses and help support each other. Meetings start Wednesday, March 18 and will continue for six weeks. The meetings will be held from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required by March 11 and can be made by calling Linda Clark at 315-735-6487 ext. 1015.

Adult Parental Loss – This group is for adults who have experienced the death of a parent. Meetings are 5:30 – 7 p.m. and begin Tuesday, March 24. The meetings continue for six weeks. To register call Adrian Bartholomeo at 315-735-6487 ext. 1070 by March 17.

Spousal Loss Grief Group – This group meets to provide support and comfort to others who have lost spouses or partners. Meetings are held Mondays from 5 – 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: April 6, April 20, April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18. Pre-registration is required by March 30. To pre-register call Tracey Clark, at 315-735-6487 ext. 1007.

There will also be a meeting for those in Herkimer County every Wednesday for six weeks starting April 15, from 2:30 – 4 p.m. To register, call Tracey Clark 315-735-6487 ext. 1007. These meetings will be held at the YMCA at 83 E. Main St., in Mohawk.

Brave Hearts Children’s Program – Children ages 6 -12 who have lost a parent, grandparent or other loved one can join this group to learn how to better understand their feelings and cope with grief. Parents are asked to come to the first meeting 15 minutes early for orientation. Meetings will be held every Thursday for eight weeks from 6 – 7:30 p.m. To register, call Adrian Bartholomeo at 315-735-6487 ext. 1070.

There will also be meetings held in Herkimer County if enough children register. Anyone interested can register by calling Adrian Bartholomeo at 315-735-6487 ext. 1070.

Hospice Sangertown Walkers - Hospice also invites adults who have lost a spouse or partner to Sangertown Square on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. To register, call Bertha Lawson at 315-724-5026.
