HERKIMER, N.Y. -- Seventh graders got hands-on experience and exposure to skilled building trades Friday.
It's a partnership among three of the area BOCES.
Students got hands on demos of heavy equipment like back hoes and skid steer loaders. They also learned about trades like welding, masonry, plumbing and electrical installations.
“Trying to introduce the trades and know the push around the state is to be career ready, for some that involves college, for other kids that involves the trades and the trades are screaming for a workforce. So hopefully we are preparing them,” said Sandra Sherwood, the district superintendent.
About 450 students attended the event Friday.
