UTICA, NY – Utica College’s Clark Gymnasium was filled with people trying to make life a little easier for those in need.
Volunteers from area Rotary Clubs, Scout Troop 14, and Hugh O’Brien Youth leadership sophomores spent Saturday afternoon helping to feed Central New York.
They put together over 28,000 meals of nutrient-enriched shelf-stable food.
The meals were then packed up and loaded on a truck from the CNY Food Bank in Syracuse.
Lynn Hy, Chief Development Officer of the CNY Food Bank, says that food will then be distributed to area families in need of assistance.
“There are more than 181,000 people who are food insecure, which means they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. An event like this is going to provide thousands of meals back into the community.”
This is the second year for this event, and organizers are hoping it will continue to grow.
