WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. – The man who admitted to murdering his pregnant wife in Canastota in 2020 was officially sentenced to 20 years to life in prison Thursday.
George McDonald stabbed 19-year-old Lizzie Garrow to death with a kitchen knife in September of 2020. Garrow was reported missing by her family before authorities found her body next to the Thruway overpass on Main Street.
McDonald initially pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt and aggravated criminal contempt for violating an order of protection.
In August, he changed his plea to guilty on the second-degree murder charge.
When McDonald entered his plea, he knew he’d be receiving 20 years to life in prison. As part of the deal, he also waived his right to an appeal.
