ILION, NY – The Ilion American Legion Post 920 is stepping up to make sure local residents have a merry Christmas this year.
They want to make sure that families in the Central Valley school district who might be struggling due to the layoffs at Remington Arms, or from the pandemic, have toys under their trees to open on Christmas morning.
Auxiliary President Doris Scheiderich says they’re looking to provide toys for children up to age 13.
“It’s our way of giving back. Our normal routine is that we give to the schools for the hats and mittens during the winter for the kids, but we’re unable to do that this year. We just figured we’d do something different, and give to more people in return."
If you’d like to sign up to receive assistance you’re asked to call Doris any time before 3 pm at (731) 441-4579. You can also call the Ilion Legion Tuesdays through Thursdays at (315) 894-8128.
The deadline to call is December 13th. Pick-ups will be scheduled for December 19th and 20th.
You must bring your own bag when picking up the toys.
