ILION, NY – Some good news out of Ilion Tuesday.
Department of Public Works Superintendent Tim Noffer is cancer-free.
That word coming from Ilion Mayor Brian Lamica.
To celebrate – and to show their support – family, friends, co-workers, and other members of the community surprised him with an impromptu parade.
They met at Barringer Road Elementary School around 6:30 pm.
That’s when the fun began.
With horns honking, flags waving, and signs declaring that he had kicked cancer’s you know what, an endless line of vehicles paraded past his home to celebrate his victory over cancer.
“With anybody battling cancer, it’s the support group that will pull you through,” said Ilion Mayor Brian Lamica.
“If anything Tim has proven to be a fighter, and the community and his family are showing that he’s got the support for the emotional side and anything else that goes with it.”
Noffer had been diagnosed with stage 3 supra epiglottic cancer a little over 7 months ago.
He got the word from his doctors Monday morning that he was cancer-free.
