ILION, N.Y. -- The Ilion Firefighters Association released a statement on Monday with regards to the change in command structure at the Ilion Fire Department that NEWSChannel 2 first reported on February 25.
In the statement, the Association acknowledged that it is aware of the serious allegations that have been made involving various members.
"At this time, the Association is unaware of specific details and facts alleged, or their merit. However, it additionally believes that every member of the Association deserves respect, and it will not defend the indefensible conduct or behavior."
The statement went on to say that the accusations are serious and warrant an investigation. The Association understands that the mayor and village board are legally bound to do so.
Last week Mayor Brian Lamica released a statement saying that a complaint was filed by a now former employee of the Village of Ilion alleging conduct which could subject the village to legal liability.
The investigation, conducted by Ilion Police, began in the fall.
