ROME, N.Y. -- A two-car crash in Rome sent a couple to the hospital Thursday evening.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened on Oswego Road just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

They say 24-year-old Dillon Meagher of Ilion, was driving east when he dropped a water bottle under his feet. When he reached for it, he veered out of his lane and hit a car driven by 70-year-old Thomas Foster.

Foster and his wife Paula Foster, 62, were taken to Rome Memorial Hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Meagher's condition is unknown at this point.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene because of extensive damage.
