ILION, N.Y. – The owner of a smoke shop in Ilion is facing several charges after untaxed cigarettes and drugs were allegedly found at the store earlier this month.
On Oct. 13, New York State Police arrested Ali N. Al Shugaa, 32, of Utica, after troopers say they found untaxed cigarettes, marijuana and illegal fireworks at Liberty Smokeland, located on Central Avenue.
Al Shugaa is charged with felony possession of more than 30,000 untaxed cigarettes, criminal possession of marijuana, unlawful sale of fireworks and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The shop was searched on Oct. 2 by state police’s Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Ilion Police Department.
Al Shugaa was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
