The Illinois man who was charged with rape after he was found with a 16-year-old in a Rome motel is facing an additional weapon charge, according to the Rome Police Department.

On Jan. 17, Rome police responded to the Red Carpet Inn at 799 Lawrence St. where they found a car belonging to 27-year-old Dakota Adair, who was wanted out of Illinois for alleged child abduction. Adair was then found in a motel room with a 16-year-old who had been reported missing out of Illinois on Jan. 14.

At that time, Adair was taken into Rome police custody for questioning, then charged with felony third-degree rape. He is now facing an additional charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after a gun was found in the glove box of his car, according to Rome police.

Police say the gun was registered in Illinois, but Adair was not legally allowed to bring it across state lines.

Adair will answer to the local charges before being extradited back to Illinois where he faces additional charges.
