UTICA - A crowd of kids proved physical activity can be fun as they ran, jumped, climbed, and crawled through the Kids Heart Challenge obstacle course Friday night at Valley Gymnastics.
Kids of all ages gathered for the Kids Heart Challenge, a half-mile obstacle course. About 50 kids participated.
The event coordinators say the goal of the event is to get children moving and educate them on the the importance of physical activity for the heart.
Statistics show one in three kids and teens is overweight or obese, but healthy habits like regular exercise can help fight the childhood obesity epidemic.
"It's a free obstacle course for kids ages 5 up to 12. It challenges their agility, balance and speed. They're climbing things and crawling under things they're just having a blast. We really like to show that heart disease is not age biased. It's really important to get moving and exercise," said AmeriCU marketing and event coordinator Julie Tramacera.
Everyone who completed the course received a participation medal.
