A red-tailed hawk that was found injured on the side of I-88 in Oneonta last week has been rehabilitated and was released on Monday.
Maureen Richter spotted the struggling bird on the side of the road on Feb. 16, and was later joined by an Otsego County Sheriff deputy, who called in a licensed falconer and officer from the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Rehabilitators Charlie and Dorie Koop took the hawk to Pittsfield to nurse it back to health.
Monday afternoon, the Koops, Richter, deputies and DEC officers met in the town of Milford to release the hawk back into its natural habitat.
