NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – Following a close race, Cheryl Jassak-Huther is the unofficial winner of the Republican primary for New Hartford town clerk.
Jassak-Huther has been serving as the interim town clerk since earlier this year. Since 2012, the town clerk has also managed the town’s tax collection duties.
Including all votes from Primary Day and early voting, Jassak-Huther received nearly 42% of the votes with 275.
Jassak-Huther had two opponents in Tuesday’s primary, Melody Fancett and Richard Woodland Jr. Fancett received 207 and Woodland 175.
As of the Primary Day, there were no Democratic candidates for the position.
The former town clerk, Gail Wolanin-Young, retired after serving for 55 years.
