UTICA, N.Y. --- The Utica Zoo is celebrating International Red Panda Weekend. A time where the animal world calling to raise awareness for the endangered species.
This weekend, the Utica Zoo acknowledged their 4 red pandas that have quickly become a fan favorite. Zoo officials tell NEWSChannel 2 that this marks the one year anniversary since the cubs were born inside of the zoo.
Over the weekend the zoo had a variety of events that included a scavenger hunt and crafts for kids.
The zoo is continuing its mission by studying these animals and ensuring that they have a future in our world's ecosystems. The zoo aims to eventually aid in reintroducing these animals into the wild.
Zoo officials said they do offer close encounters with the animals, but said most times are booked into the near future.
