UTICA, NY – Johnson Park Center is once again doing its part to ensure everyone has a happy holiday.
Hundreds of people who pre-registered to receive gifts and food for the holidays, waited patiently outside in the cold Monday as volunteers worked effortlessly to keep the line moving.
This year 12 hundred households signed up for assistance from the center.
Reverend Ursula Meier, Chief Operations Officer of Johnson Park Center, says they’re handing out toys, games, and household items.
Whatever it takes to give back to the community.
“This year a lot of people are just speechless. There’s so much trauma, so much suffering right now. Nobody knows what’s going on next month, next year. People are passing away so the grief is very severe this year, and to just get a present, to have extra food, to make people happy is so important this year.”
Johnson Park Center’s Days of Celebration food and gift giveaway continues through Wednesday. Pre-registrants were given a pink ticket, which they must bring with them, with their scheduled day and time to pick up their items.
