FORESTPORT, N.Y. -- A large fire destroyed a home in Forestport near Otter Lake early Thursday morning.
The call prompted a response from at least four local fire departments.
Otter Lake Fire Chief Scott Eisenhart say two people and a dog were home when the fire broke out, but were able to get out safely.
Initial 911 calls came in around 2:20 a.m. for a fully involved garage fire at 1026 Norton Road, which is located off of Lake View Road in Otter Lake.
Eisenhart says the fire quickly spread to the home, and was fed by propane tanks stored in the garage.
Crews arrived and called in water tankers for assistance.
The fire was under control a few hours later. Fire personnel will remain on-scene for a while.
The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire crews were called to the scene from Forestport, Otter Lake, Old Forge, Stittville and Woodgate. New York State Police and medical personnel from Old Forge also responded.
