ROME, N.Y. -- An overnight fire in Rome has been deemed suspicious in nature by officials.
It happened on South James Street just after midnight.
Fire officials say firefighters arrived to smoke coming out of all sides of the home.
The homeowner approached firefighters stated that the house was empty and that a tenant had moved out earlier in the day.
Damage was limited to the room of origin and an adjacent living room.
There is smoke and heat damage to the remainder of the structure.
The investigation is ongoing.
