Police officers and other members of law enforcement will be ringing bells across the state as part of the Salvation Army red kettle campaign.
The new Bells and Badges event will be held on Dec. 19 to collect donation for community service programs offered by the Salvation Army.
“Thanks to the generosity of the officers, the deputies, the troopers, the corrections officers, much needed donations will be raised to provide food for those who would otherwise be hungry, warm clothes to those who would otherwise be cold, shelter to those who would otherwise be homeless," said Salvation Army state commander, Ivan Rock
The concept for the event came from the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, and expanded to include state troopers, county sheriff’s departments and corrections officers.
