WASHINGTON- The senate could not pass the continuing coverage bill on Friday evening, so the government shutdown at midnight.

NEWSChannel 2 talked to Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi about their thoughts on the shutdown.

The Congresswoman said she believed DACA was one of the reasons why the legislation didn't pass.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, who is also a candidate for the 22nd Congressional District, said lawmakers in Washington need to start acting like adults and put the country ahead of partisan politics.

Brindisi said,"Right now you have Republican control of the White House, House of Representatives and the Senate, so it’s hard to say that the Democrats are to blame for the shutdown when they have one party controls in Washington right now."

The Congresswoman said," The democrats have not offered any amendments or any changes. This continuing coverage resolution funds the government for a number of the key programs and these are all things the democrats have voted on many times before."

Lawmakers in Washington would like to come to an agreement by Monday.
