Some local Walmart stores will begin giving COVID-19 vaccines starting Thursday, March 11.
This includes locations in Herkimer, New Hartford, Rome and Utica.
According to the state, pharmacies can only vaccinate those older than 60, and teachers or others who work in education or daycare.
Regional market health and wellness director, David Oakes, says people can call Wednesday to make appointments, but the online scheduling function won’t be active until Thursday.
The vaccines are provided to Walmart through the federal government, and are free of cost.
