New Hartford, NY - "I wanted to give people motivation and encouragement to use this time to get better at what they love to do or if they don't know what they love to do to find a new hobby or passion. While you're stuck at home you can always find something to do to get better at." says Henderson.

Kaia Henderson just finished up a record-breaking basketball season. Becoming New Hartford's all-time leading scorer and has been named Section III Class A Player of the Year.

She's just a sophomore.

While in quarantine, her two brothers helped her bring the idea of a motivational movement to fruition. It's called the #10KHoursChallenge.

In a introductory video, Henderson starts off by saying, "I don't know if you know this but, it takes 10,000 hours to perfect any craft. For me, my craft is basketball. So I created a challenge. I want to know what your craft is and what you're doing to get closer to your 10,000 hours."

Participants in the challenge can post a video on social media using the hashtag #10KHoursChallenge to enter into a contest. There are 10 prizes available along with a prize for best basketball video.

Henderson says they set the deadline to enter videos for May 1, 2020 but hopes that the challenge will continue and make a lasting impact.

"It's bigger than just this challenge. I want it to really impact people and their lives and what they do. I really want them to find something they love to do. It's a really tough time for people. It means so much to me and makes me so happy to see how people are using this time to have fun and look at the bright side." adds Henderson.

She is also using this opportunity to assist those in need in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. For every video submitted pr posted, they will be donating $1 to the Mohawk Valley COVID-19 Response Fund.

Like many athletes, Henderson misses being around her teammates. She says they FaceTime and watch Netflix movies together.

During her time at home she is learning how to play the piano, she's an avid runner, she's sharpening her cooking skills and wants to learn how to walk on her hands.
