WESTERNVILLE, N.Y. – Donations were made to the Westernville Fire Department Thursday to help support storm relief efforts after an EF1 tornado hit the hamlet on July 8.
Oneida County Rural Telephone in Holland Patent, the parent company of Northland Communications, presented a $2,500 check to the fire department and another $2,500 to the Westernville Library to help with storm repairs.
Kris-tech Wire in Rome also donated $5,000 as part of the company’s monthly effort to help the community.
"With Kris-Tech Wire we have a culture committee and every month we try to go through and look at local events to see where we can help the community,” said Nadine Almond, spokesperson for Kris-Tech. “Once a quarter we donate a dollar per thousand copper pounds, and once we saw the devastation that happened here we knew we had to step in and do the most that we can.”
Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol also presented a $200 check from an anonymous donor.
