NEW HARTFORD -- Members of the 'Skating Club of New Hartford' continue to train after competing in the Empire State Games.
The empire games is the biggest event of the year for local ice skaters. The games have ended but the skaters are still in training mode.
Skating club members train year round to compete in the state's regional version of the Olympics.
One coach says she loves to see her students grow as skaters and get better each year.
“Seeing them first go to their competition and may not place well, but then progress to placing and getting a medal,” figure skating coach Stephanie Bevins said. “We had a couple girls, two years ago they didn't place and then the last two years in a row they've come home with a medal. So as a coach you know that you're on the right track."
The skaters train five days a week. Each training session lasts for at least an hour.
One student says he credits the skating club for all his success at the Empire State Games.
Bevins says anyone who wants to take ice skating lessons can sign up for their spring registration. The phone number for 'Learn to Skate' is (315) 734-5656.
