"Your lawn will tell you when they're happy and when they're sad just like a person. We tend to drink more on days like today. Valley are finding ways to keep their grass from turning brown.

Landscaper Bob Desanctis has been working around the issue.

"In the last three weeks of June we really didn't have much measurable rain so we're in this situation now where things are very dry," DeSantis said.

Being abnormally dry is the status just before the area enters a moderate drought. Desanctis says grass needs at least an inch of rain a week to stay green.

"Being in the landscaping business any gardener would know that they had to water their plants once or twice a day over the last month just to keep them a live."

Rome Fire Lt. Mike Reilly says the amount of grass fires and brush fires have gone up recently due to the dry heat. he says if you plan on having camp fires or grass fires... you should stay away from dry grass or twigs.

"We had a mulch fire yesterday caused by a discarded cigarette," Lt. Reilly said. "The mulch and the underbrush is so dry that it's going to smolder and then catch on fire."
