With the start of the school year right around the corner, a local man is giving back to the community.

Ricky Curry held his second school supply giveaway Saturday afternoon in an effort to provide children with the proper tools to succeed in the classroom.

Curry is a Proctor and MVCC grad and comes back to the area to give back to his hometown.

"It's important to have donation events like this because it can inspire other people to help give back to the community and not only that, some parents may not have it to give or be able to provide so we want to step in and help those parents," said Curry. "If those kids have the necessary tools to go to school and get classwork done that increases their chances of succeeding in the classroom."

Supply kits included notebooks, rulers, pens, pencils, folders and glue sticks.
