Utica, NY - We're all trying our best to stay active and in shape while staying at home and practicing social distancing. Bryan Stamboly, a physical education teacher at General Herkimer Elementary school has found a cool way to work out and encourage his students to do the same.
Mostly using the app, TikTok, he uploads fun and educational videos for students to stay active while being at home.
"I know how I was feeling all cooped up with nothing to do and with the weather the way it's been there's some good outside days when you can get outside and play but there's a lot of times that you couldn't I didn't want them to get discouraged," says Stamboly.
With Stewie cartoon, a teddy bear and a cutout picture of Michael Jordan in the ‘audience’ he plays golf, hockey, plays catch and gets a good workout in. This is his way of helping young students stay active who now have to police their activity throughout the day because they aren’t walking and running around as much as they would be at school and other places.
"One thing that’s neat is it's sport related and it's also time consuming the mini golf one there took just a while to set up let alone play so it kind of was good for parents to because they can get their kids out of their hair and gives them something to do."
While coronavirus has completey consumed our lives, his impact is just a small part of what our healthcare workers are doing.
"The front line people are the ones that should have all this credit. Between the hospital workers and the nurses and the RN's, there's other people playing different roles and if one of them is trying to lighten the mood or be funny I feel like I can fit that pretty well," says Stamboly.
Some of Stamboly's videos are posted on the Oneida County government website at ocgov.net. He says he has some more videos in his arsenal and plans on putting them out once a week.
Stamboly says that he doesn’t want this stop kids from doing their school work adding, “I am a believer that this stuff is just as important or else you're going to stress yourself out.”
