WHITESBORO, N.Y. -- Whether you're planning vacation for this spring or this summer and you want to travel by RV, you might not be able to buy one right away.
Boulevard Trailers Inc. in Whitesboro says that it's been very difficult to get any new trailers. The owner, Jan Zabek, says "We ordered 30 trailers in October. We received one so far, which is right behind me and we sold it two days after we got it."
There is a high demand for RV trailers this year, but the main reason for the delay is the materials.
"A tremendous shortage of material," said Zabek. "And we're hearing that dealers are getting units with parts missing and then parts are sent to them later."
This delays the selling process even longer, since they have to install these parts themselves. And on top of this, the price of materials is going up.
"Everything we're buying, we're getting weekly sheets that are saying this is going up, we have a 90 dollar surcharge on diesel fuel to get stuff here," said Zabek.
If dealers want to get an RV delivered at all, they have to sell it just so that it can be built. This is because sold RV's are a higher priority right now than dealers that are just ordering for stock.
"They're only building units that are sold. If a dealer puts something in as stock, it's just going to be sitting there in the back," said Zabek.
Boulevard Trailers say they expect to get a few used trailers for sale in the next month or so.
