Today the Mid-American Conference has announced the cancellation of their 2020 fall sports seasons due to coronavirus concerns.
The MAC becomes the first FBS conference to cancel their football season after league presidents voted unanimously in favor of the postponement today.
Earlier this week, the University of Connecticut became the first FBS program to cancel its season.
MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said, “There are simply too many unknowns for us to put our student-athletes in situations that are not clearly understood. We have traditionally been a leader on student-athlete well-being issues. This has not been an easy decision. For the Mid-American Conference, it is the right decision.”
They are planning on moving all affected fall sports to the spring.
Today, Syracuse football players officially started their preseason camp after players elected to sit out on Thursday and Friday instead to meet about coronavirus concerns.
