WKTV - The new normal.
Due to current government restrictions on large gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the students at Mohawk Valley Community College heard their names called virtually or watched them be revealed across a screen.
It began with remarks from College President Randall J. VanWagoner, Ph.D followed by remarks from Camille Kahler, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Faculty and special guests sent their good wishes to students in a video, including Senator Charles Schumer, Bob Saget from the 90s sitcom, full house saying, “Congrats Mohawk Valley Community College you graduated, 2020. You did it and virtual or not, you’re there.”
Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell, and WNBA champion and Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Lisa Leslie were amongst the special guests.
MVCC used the social media app, Snapchat, to allow all of their graduates to take a picture with their virtual cap and gowns, to share on any social media platform using the tag #mvcc2020.
“I know this is not the graduation you envisioned when you first enrolled in your first class at MVCC, but don't let this pandemic diminish the significance of what you have accomplished. You are now a college graduate and nothing can ever take that away from you,” said VanWagoner.
Nearly 800 students graduated today.
