UTICA, N.Y. – Mohawk Valley Health System is the first facility in New York state to receive accreditation for its cardiac catheterization laboratory from the American College of Cardiology (ACC).
To receive the accreditation, MVHS had to meet or exceed certain criteria after undergoing an on-site evaluation, a gap analysis, examination of care and action plan development.
ACC also assessed the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients at the lab.
Tanya Bristol, nurse manager at MVHS, says the accreditation "has given us an opportunity to utilize their best practices and different criteria that really make a difference in the way we do our day to day work. A cardiac cath is a cardiac cath -- but when you are using the appropriate and the best practices, you're making sure that the outcomes are as good as they could possibly be.”
Accredited facilities gain access to services that improve patient care by streamlining processes, setting new standards and adopting best practices.
