UTICA, N.Y. – Mohawk Valley Health System has sent letters to unvaccinated employees reminding them of the Sept. 27 deadline to get their first dose – or face termination.
On Aug. 16, New York State Health Department issued a vaccine mandate for all health care workers in hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care facilities and other congregate care settings.
The letter from MVHS says employees must present proof of at least the first dose, or an approved medical exemption, by the September deadline as a “condition of continued employment.”
The workers have also been told there are no religious exemptions to the mandate.
MVHS has set up pods on their campuses to make the vaccines more accessible to employees.
At the end of July, MVHS President and CEO Darlene Stromstad said roughly 30% of the network’s workers were not vaccinated.
