ORISKANY, N.Y. – Ten inmates at the Oneida County Correctional Facility have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.
All 10 of the positive inmates have been moved to the jail’s medical unit, but are not showing symptoms, according to Maciol.
The infected inmates were in a housing unit with 33 others when the first positive case was confirmed. As of Tuesday afternoon, Maciol says 29 of the other inmates have tested negative, but have been moved to a separate unit to quarantine and be monitored for symptoms. He says they are still waiting for the final four inmates' test results.
According to Maciol, jail staff is working with the Oneida County Health Department to determine how the inmates were exposed to the virus.
