BROOKFIELD, N.Y. – A Brookfield man has been charged after Madison County Sheriff’s Office says he accidentally shot himself, and then reported that he was shot by someone else.
Deputies were called to a home on Route 8 in Brookfield on Monday, Oct. 26, after 18-year-old Tyler L. Wood told 911 dispatchers he had been shot in the leg by a stranger while entering his home.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before taking Wood to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for further treatment.
When sheriff’s investigators interviewed Wood, they say he admitted that he accidentally shot himself and falsely reported it as a shooting.
Wood is charged with falsely reporting an incident and illegally discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a residence, which is a violation of the Environmental Conservation Law.
Wood will appear in Town of Brookfield Court to answer the charges on Nov. 10.
