OLD FORGE, N.Y. -- The Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency held a public hearing on Enchanted Forest Water Safari's plan to expand in Old Forge Monday.
No residents attended the hearing.
The IDA says it is still waiting to see if support will come from Empire State Development, which is crucial to move forward.
The theme park is proposing a $3 million upgrade that includes three new water slides and the removal of some old ones.
“This is the tourism buffet – Enchanted Forest Water Safari is the main dish. But when people come to Enchanted Forest Water Safari, they come to Old Forge. When they come to Old Forge, they come to Herkimer County. They see that this town and the county has so many offerings, so many venues, something for everyone, that is what rounds out the tourism market here,” said Mike Farmer, the tourism director.
Trip Advisor ranks water safari as one of the top 20 water parks in the country.
