ONEONTA, N.Y. – Oneonta police have arrested a man for defacing multiple businesses and private properties in the area with graffiti.
Thomas R. Miller, 26, of Oneonta, is charged with eight counts of making graffiti, and six counts of criminal mischief. One of the criminal mischief charges is designated as a hate crime, because offensive symbols were painted onto a church.

“The perseverance of our dedicated officers sends a clear message that expressions of hate have no place in Oneonta and will not be tolerated. I thank Officer Amanda Catapano for her leadership in pursuing this arrest,” said Mayor Gary Herzig.
Police say the incidents took place from November of 2019 through February.
Miller was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the City of Oneonta Court at a later date.
