NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – A man from New York Mills was arrested at the New Hartford Walmart Saturday after allegedly trying to shoplift multiple items.
Police were called to the store on Commercial Drive around 2:30 p.m. after employees accused 28-year-old Jose H. Burgos of failing to scan several items and self-checkout.
While police were trying to arrest Burgos, they say he started to resist leading to a struggle.
One of the arresting officers injured his left knee during the incident. He was taken to St. Luke’s for treatment and released.
Burgos was eventually taken into custody and charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest and second-degree assault.
Burgos was arraigned and remanded to the Oneida County jail on $2,500 cash bail.
