UTICA, N.Y. – A man accused of stealing a car from a gas station in Utica and leading police on a chase spanning three counties appeared in Oneida County Court Tuesday.
Eric Baker, of Pittsford, is charged with two counts of robbery and reckless endangerment stemming from the July 2020 incident.
Baker allegedly hit the vehicle owner, Samantha Drake, while stealing the car from a gas station on Whitesboro Street. Police pursued Baker in the stolen vehicle for nearly 90 miles until he crashed in Hamilton County.
Baker had just left the McPike Addiction Treatment Center in Utica before the alleged theft.
A judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Baker following a belligerent virtual court appearance in August of 2020.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Baker was offered a plea deal with a sentence of 3 1/2 years in jail.
Baker is due back in court June 16 to either accept or reject the offer.
