ONEONTA, N.Y. – New York State Police say a 72-year-old man was impaired by drugs when he drove seven miles in the wrong direction down Interstate 88 on Friday, Aug. 28.
Steven D. Wiedeman, of Otego, was arrested around 12:30 p.m., and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.
Police say several drivers had to go off of the road to dodge Wiedeman, who was traveling east in the westbound lane.
A senior investigator tried to stop Wiedeman, who eventually pulled into a U-turn near Exit 16.
Wiedeman was issued an appearance ticket and then released to a sober third party.
He is expected to appear in court on Sept. 28.
