UTICA, N.Y. (UPDATED) – A man in a wheelchair was trapped inside his home after a tree fell through it during severe thunderstorms in Utica Wednesday afternoon.
The tree fell onto the house at 12 Bryant St. in West Utica around 1:30 p.m.
Neighbors say they tried to help the man, who was stuck, bent over in his wheelchair when the house was crushed.
"So I went to go out my front door to look and then saw this and then just went running. We're all trying to yank and just keep taling to him because he's literally just bent over in his wheelchair with his face to his lap and had the house on him," said Rebecca Price, who lives in a home nearby.
Emergency crews were called to the scene to help the man and his dog out of the home. Rescue workers were able to get them both out by 2 p.m.
The house next door also suffered significant damage from the fallen tree, but everyone inside was able to get out safely.
