WEBB, N.Y. – A Binghamton man was hospitalized after an accident Monday on Third Lake.
Town of Webb police say two personal watercrafts collided after 51-year-old Aaron Bland made an abrupt U-turn while heading northeast.
Kathleen Sciortino, 48, of Marcy, was headed in the same direction on her personal watercraft, and jumped into the water when she realized she wouldn’t be able to avoid the collision. Her watercraft continued forward and hit Bland before going airborne.
Bland was unconscious in the water before nearby boaters took him to shore.
The boaters called 911, and Old Forge Fire Department was sent to Marleau Road near the Bald Mountain Colony, around 2:20 p.m.
Bland regained consciousness and was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica for an evaluation. Sciortino refused medical treatment.
Both Bland and Sciortino were charged with operating personal watercraft without possessing a boating safety certificate, under New York State Navigation Law.
The two will appear in Town of Webb Court on Sept. 10.
