MARCY N.Y.- A Marcy Boy just turned 11-years-old last week, and for his birthday he didn't accept presents. Instead, he wanted to do something special for the community.
Dustin Fitzgerald collected food donations for a local food pantry. So much food was donated. Fitzgerald says he usually gets what he wants for his birthday, and the only present he wanted to see this year, was to see smiles on other people's faces.
With that being said, Dustin asked for people to drop off food or monetary donations.
All food and proceeds are being donated to Country Pantry in Clark Mills. $500 in monetary donations was also recieved for the pantry.
"What made me want to do this is, is that we have friends and family that volunteer (at the food pantry), and we heard that they were in need of more food. So, I decided to have a food donation." said Dustin.
Dustin's Mom Kaila Fitzgerald says the family was "lucky enough that the entire community (as well as) family, friends, rallied around him."
"We had a donation box in the front yard that strangers stopped and donated to. We had friends collecting for us, we had money coming in from friends and family across the country, it was the entire community and beyond that helped him reach this goal." said Kaila.
All of the food and money collected from Dustin Fitzgerald's food drive will be donated to the Country Pantry on East South Street in Clark Mills.
The donations are scheduled to be delivered this Thursday August 20, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.
