MARCY, NY – Tired of being cooped up, residents of Sunrise Terrace in Marcy decided to get together and show their support for the country, and each other, during the coronavirus crisis.
From a distance of course.
On Sunday evening, at precisely 7 pm, residents gathered outside their homes – many of them waving American flags – to sing God Bless America and a few other patriotic songs.
Monica Schmadel, who lives at the end of the street, says she had heard of other communities around the country showing similar signs of support and decided to get her neighbors involved.
“I called everybody on the street, Friday. All afternoon I was on the phone catching up with my neighbors, but it was fun. It’s something uplifting for a change.”
Monica says once everybody is free to move around again, she’d like to see her neighbors do an encore.
Only this time, together.
