UTICA, NY – The Maynard Fire Department was just one of many first responding agencies to offer medical assistance at this year’s Boilermaker.
To those running the race, and to those cheering on the sidelines.
They even offered assistance to a 4-legged runner.
Maynard Assistant Fire Chief Randy Caldwell says the guide dog of a legally blind runner collapsed shortly after crossing the Boilermaker finish line.
“The dog was lethargic at first, it was panting heavily. It appeared to be suffering from some heat-related illness. We provided the dog with some water and oxygen to stabilize the dog and it was able to walk out on its own.”
EMT’s advised the owner to have the dog checked out by its veterinarian.
