CAMDEN, N.Y. – A lucky someone who purchased a Mega Millions ticket in Camden is about to be $96 million richer after Tuesday’s drawing.
The winning ticket was sold at the Kinney Drugs on Preston Hill Street. The prize is estimated to be about $96 million, or $68.5 million in cash.
Just the one ticket matched all six numbers: 1, 36, 44, 54 and 66 with the 10 gold Mega ball.
The winner has not yet come forward. Resident Ray Guyer says it wasn't him, but if he had won, he would share with people in need.
"Well it wasn’t me. I guess if you don’t play…you don’t get paid, I guess," he said. "I think if I would have won it I would give something to the Camden Legion and some of the folks that need it."
Sue Hebble, who was at Kinney Drugs on Wednesday, said she was shocked when she heard the news.
"I was dumbfounded. With that amount of money in this community it could go a long way, especially with the families that are here," she said. "I’m just hoping somebody who really needs it won it."
According to Mega Millions, 515,119 other tickets won prizes at various levels in the Feb. 16 drawing.
This is the second major jackpot won this year, after a ticket worth $1.05 billion was sold in Michigan on Jan. 22. The winner of that prize still hasn't claimed it yet.
The last time a Mega Millions jackpot was won in New York happened in 2019, when a group of 23 co-workers shared a $437 million prize.
