NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (UPDATED) – New Hartford police are still searching for a driver who fled the scene after hitting a Department of Transportation sign outside of New Hartford Eye Associates early Thursday morning.
Police say the driver veered off the road around 12:30 a.m. while heading east on Route 5, hit the sign, and ruptured a gas line.
National Grid crews were called to the scene to repair the line.
After hitting the sign, the vehicle continued on and hit the New Hartford Eye Associates building. Police say the collision did not cause any structural damage.
Police say the car was not stolen, but is registered to someone who lives out of the area.
