HERKIMER, NY - It was a special night under the lights at HCCC's Wehrum Stadium for the Mohawk Valley Challengers annual flag football homecoming game.
The Mohawk Valley Challengers are a flag football and cheer group for local special needs kids.
Saturday night they took on a team made up of local law enforcement officers, known as the Honey Badgers. You might even say they badgered them.
These special athletes certainly gave the fans in the stands something to cheer about. More importantly, they made it fun.
“You know, just to see the smiles on their faces, and to see them score a touchdown is amazing,” said Brad Preston, president and head coach of the Challengers.
“You know they're not included in some things and to see them play together gives them more confidence. They’ll act certain ways off the field, but on the field, they're totally different."
In the end, the final score didn't matter. The only thing that did was the smiles on everyone's faces.
Besides, the way they were playing, the scoreboard probably doesn’t even go up that high.
